OPEN-PIT MINING BUDGET TEMPLATE

A starting point for open-pit operations: strip ratio drives waste tonnes, drill & blast costs per BCM, fleet size to deliver target tpm, and processing through crusher–screen or flotation circuit.

Strip ratio and waste

Strip ratio (waste:ore) is the biggest cost driver in open pit. The template lets you sweep strip ratio to see the cost/t impact.

Drill & blast costs

Typical $1.20–$2.00 per BCM for soft to medium rock, $2.50–$4.00 for hard. Includes drilling, explosives, accessories and labour.

Frequently asked questions

What strip ratio is normal?

Small copper pits: 2:1 to 5:1. Iron ore: 1:1 to 3:1. Gold heap-leach: 1:1 to 4:1. Higher ratios need a deep pit design review.
